Manchester City pen training equipment deal

remier League title chasers Manchester City have formalised a partnership with training equipment company TRX.
The partnership, announced on Monday, will see City’s senior and academy players continue to use TRX equipment as part of their fitness regimes and tailored training programmes.
In addition to supplying the gym at the club’s new academy, which is set to open later this year, TRX will also collaborate with City on a series of strength conditioning publication pieces.
City players will also feature in a TRX promotional video as part of a digital and social marketing campaign.
“Strength and conditioning forms an important part of our training programmes for all our squads,” said Dr Sam Erith, City’s head of sports science.
“Players will work daily on individualised programmes with the goals of making key athletic movements more efficient and the body more resilient to the risk of injury.”
Manchester City are widely considered favourites to claim this year’s Premier League title. They currently sit third in the table, four points behind leaders Liverpool but with two games in hand.

Liverpool best we've faced says Kompany

Liverpool could be four points clear of the Citizens come their meeting at Anfield on April 13th in what is no doubt a title altering match, although they will have two games in hand on their other title rivals.

Kompany scored the winner as City came from behind to beat Liverpool at home back in December, and the Belgian defender maintains that the Reds are the strongest team they have come up against this year.

He said: “They are the strongest team we have played this season. They have a great squad and they are not there by luck.”

After facing Liverpool City’s only other obvious test will come away to the other Merseyside club Everton, who themselves are chasing the last Champions League spot.

And the City captain knows that a trip to Anfield will be a game that carries high stakes.

Kompany added: “We have different styles but the same philosophy of trying to score goals, so I think it will be an entertaining game. It's hard to predict because so much is at stake, but we remember the game we played at the Etihad and I'm not surprised at all.

"Our strongest part of the season when we won the league was when we had no other competitions to play in, and Liverpool have had that this season."

Pellegrini says Man City's controversial second goal against Southampton not a 'game changer'

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini does not believe his team's controversial second goal against Southampton changed the outcome of the game.
The match officials failed to spot David Silva was in an offside position when he received the ball in the build up to Samir Nasri's goal.
City went on to score two more times at the Etihad Stadium as they won 4-1 in the Premier League.

Real Madrid Offer Player Swap Deal In Pursuit of Wantaway Man City Striker Sergio Aguero

Real Madrid are ready to offer experienced keeper Iker Casillas as part of a deal to sign Man City striker Sergio Aguero, a player Football Direct News claims wants a move back to Spain.

Etihad Stadium boss Manuel Pellegrini has been linked with an interest in 32 year old custodian Casillas, who he worked with during his one season in charge at the Bernabeu, and hence the option of the World Cup winner being part of a cash plus player swap deal could be amenable to the Chilean.

Aguero has been in fine form this term though has suffered with injuries of late and with his other forwards more than coping with the demands perhaps Pellegrini would consider such a switch.

Pellegrini dropped England international Joe Hart earlier in the season though he has since shown a real return to form so it’s a tad surprising that Man City would still be tracking Casillas.

Casillas was frozen out of first team action under Jose Mourinho last term and has continued to warm the bench during Carlo Ancelotti’s reign.

EXCLUSIVE: Premier League big boys chasing Sevilla star Alberto Moreno

Manchester clubs City and United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal all want the Sevilla left back.
Moreno, 21, is seen as an alternative target for the Premier predators to Southampton’s England starlet Luke Shaw.
United and Chelsea are leading the chase for Shaw, while City, Liverpool and Arsenal are also eyeing left backs.

City’s Sporting Director and transfer-deal fixer Txiki Begiristain watched Moreno against Porto in the Europa League on Thursday night.
His other target was Porto’s France centre half Eliaquim Mangala.
Spanish international Moreno is under contract until 2018 - so Sevilla intend to hold out for £30 million if they have to sell him.
Worryingly for the Premier League clubs, they aren’t the only ones on Moreno’s case.
Inevitably, Real Madrid want him, too.

Pablo Zabaleta insists fatigue will not affect Manchester City

A tense title race is entering the closing stages and third-placed City kept the pressure on Chelsea and Liverpool with an impressive 4-1 win over Southampton on Saturday.
Manuel Pellegrini's men have been forced to cope with a hectic fixture schedule, leading them to Capital One Cup success, together with progress to the latter stages of the Champions League and FA Cup.
Yaya Toure, Edin Dzeko, Samir Nasri and Stevan Jovetic all scored as City overcame a spirited Saints side and Zabaleta admits his team cannot afford any leg weary displays in the closing games.
"The most important thing was to win - we must keep winning all games. It is going to be very tough until the end of the season," said the defender.
"At the end of the season, sometimes, teams can look a little tired but I think we must keep winning games."

"At the end of the season, sometimes, teams can look a little tired but I think we must keep winning games.
"Every single game now is going to be like a final, (but) we have belief.
"I think we have a great team to make success this season but it is not going to be very easy.
"We need to keep working hard and keep playing like (we did) in the second half. I think playing in that way we will have more chances."
Rickie Lambert equalised from the penalty spot for Southampton, who caused City plenty of problems in the first-half at the Etihad.
Zabaleta was impressed with Mauricio Pochettino's men, suggesting that Saints can threaten the top teams next season.
Zabaleta said: "I think they are probably one of the best teams in the league, for sure.
"I think we must give them a lot of credit because they are having a great season, they played really well.
"We didn't play our best in the first half but then we came back stronger.
"We had the control of the ball in the second half. We scored four goals and that is great for us."

Striker Aguero wants to be a farmer (nearly) after becoming hooked on iPad game

Fast cars, fancy restaurants and whatever luxuries money can buy are at the disposal of highly paid Premier League superstars, but striker Sergio Aguero gets his kicks from a free iPad farming game.
The injured Manchester City striker has revealed a borderline addiction to Hay Day, a light-hearted simulation game in which players tend to crops and feed their virtual animals.
'You can buy machines to get milk out of your cows and then you can make cheese and butter,' he told Sunday People.
'It is so much fun. It nearly makes me want to be a farmer.'

Aguero has had time on his hands of late suffering a frustrating run of injuries that has seen him absent from the Premier League since City's January 29 5-1 win over Tottenham. He has however played in the Captial One Cup final win against Sunderland, FA Cup quarter loss to Wigan and last appeared in City's Champions League loss to Barcelona on March 12.
Manuel Pellegrini is being careful not to aggravate his prolific frontman, with Aguero warming up with teammates on Saturday but not being named on the bench for their 4-1 win over Southampton.
The manager has confirmed the Argentinean will be unleashed at Anfield on Sunday March 13 in their key league clash against Liverpool, a match many are viewing as a decider between the two title favourites.

Pablo Zabaleta eyes perfect end to season

Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta has expressed his belief that his side must win every game from now until the end of the season if they are to win the title.
City currently sit third in the Premier League table, two points behind leaders Chelsea, although they will have two games in hand over both of the teams above them after Liverpool's match against West Ham United later today.
Manuel Pellegrini's side kept matters in their own hands with a 4-1 win over Southampton yesterday, and Zabaleta insists that they have the belief to go on and record a perfect end to the season.
"The most important thing was to win - we must keep winning all games. It is going to be very tough until the end of the season," Zabaleta is quoted as saying by PA.

"I think we have a great team to make success this season but it is not going to be very easy. We need to keep working hard and keep playing like in the second half. I think playing in that way we will have more chances."
City's next match sees them travel to Anfield to face in-form Liverpool in a potential title decider.

Manchester City 4 Southampton 1: Some Thoughts on a Game of Two Halves and a Dozing Linesman

Job done. The hardest home game remaining this season and a 3-goal victory procured, though not without difficulty and controversy. But three points was all that mattered to be honest.
A miserable day and the frustration of an early kick-off to go with it. There was little to surprise with the line-up though, except perhaps Jesus Navas once more being preferred over James Milner or even Jovetic, who seems condemned to the bench for the rest of this season.
And with the dull weather came a dull atmosphere, not helped by the underwhelming first-half performance and the time of day. I’m hardly the most vociferous of people so am not one to criticise, this is Premiership football nowadays.
City started very brightly, and helped settled the nerves with an early goal from the penalty spot. It was a penalty, but one of that are just accepted in the modern game without thought of how times have changed.
Nasri could easily have made it two and City looked in charge. But then they lost their control of the game and Southampton excelled with a wonderful exhibition of passing football that put us to shame for a while. We’ve been here before with Southampton of course, City once more struggling against a passing team that harries the City players, a worrying sign for next week at Anfield.
Thus when the equalizer came, also from the penalty spot, there could be few complaints. Though having said that, it was a rare shot on target for the visitors.
The second goal was clearly an illegal one, David Silva so far offside you wonder if the linesman was even watching the game. I must presume he did not see Dzeko’s flick-on, but clearly City got lucky and it was a good time to do so. The flick-on completely changed the direction of the ball though, so it was a bizarre one to miss.
Still, the narrative of City being lucky/buying referees blah blah can now continue unabated. The Southampton manager claimed that it changed the course of the game, whilst the ever-neutral Mark Ogden reported that City were clinging on at the time. As already mentioned it was certainly well-timed as it came close to the break, but to say it changed the course of the game is simply unprovable. We have seen time and time again insipid first-half performance from City, followed by the team turning the screw in the second half. I have little doubt that this game would have followed the same pattern with or without the goal. For all Southampton’s possession and pressure, they created few chances in either half. Away from the goals, City created all the best chances.
More to the point, City won by three goals. To claim one wrongly allowed goal has somehow handed us the game is frankly ridiculous.
And such relief to get another goal before half-time, the cross from an off-the-boil Kolarov outstanding.
And so to the second-half, where City dominated and created numerous chances, though Mark Ogden couldn’t bring himself to describe any of them in his MATCH REPORT, still fuming from the incorrectly awarded goal. Apart from one half-chance for Lambert, City were rarely threatened and should have added more than one goal to their tally.
Credit once more to Javi Garcia, who came on and once more did his job, stifling Southampton’s attacking intent and allowing City a greater foothold in the game. Like Demichelis, who only made one rash dive-in this time round, he improves like a fine wine week-by-week. Thankfully for the whingers amongst us, there is another play to direct our ire at.
Oh boy does ~Negredo need a goal. Any goal, off his arse, head, knee, it doesn’t matter. His confidence seems shot and it is baffling how much he has gone off the boil since he came back from his shoulder injury.
But for David Silva, the opposite is the case. He is simply untouchable at the moment, another magical display from the diminutive Spaniard.
Less so from his countryman Navas. I did not think he was as bad as some others have said and I felt he was much more involved and lively in the second half, like most of the team, but the lightning-fast dashes down the wing followed by a pin-point cross have been rather less frequent than I had hoped for. He is a frustrating player but still a great player and a hard worker.
Does Yaya Toure not want to play against Liverpool? His histrionics at the end of the game were bizarre and rather stupid for a player who had already been booked for a pitiful dive. He did not cover himself with glory yesterday all-in-all, though take a mean penalty.
I didn’t see clearly the first of Toure’s two penalty-area falls, but a friend who sits at that end said it was a clear penalty. Sadly Match of the Day didn’t deem it worthy of any coverage.
And so to the big one. By the time many of you have read this Liverpool will undoubtedly have defeated West Ham and the race for the title will remain as tight as ever. It may be defeatist of me, but a draw at Anfield will be no disaster.
Kudos to the Sun for putting Wayne Rooney in their team of the day, despite him not playing. Still, if you read The Sun, you get what you deserve.

Liverpool supremo has his say on Suarez to Manchester City rumours

After reports claimed Manchester City would bid big for Luis Suarez this summer, Liverpool's Ian Ayre has had his say.
Liverpool fans woke up this morning to reports claiming Manchester City were ready to make what the Sunday Times called “a huge investment” to bring Luis Suarez to the Etihad Stadium.
Given that the two sides are currently fighting it out along with Chelsea for the Premier League title – and with Liverpool just a week away from facing the Blues in what could prove to be a title-decider – the timing of the story is interesting.
But Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has now had his say on the rumours in an interview with BBC Radio Five.
In an interview later published by the Manchester Evening News, Ayre is quoted as saying, “All the conjecture which went around last summer leading up to the January transfer window was dispelled by the fact he signed a new contract.
“I think when you have a player like Luis, that is going to be a perennial issue.
“The important thing is we remain committed together. We have supported Luis through thick and thin and he has done the same by signing up to a new long-term contract recently.
“We would expect that to continue, but we’d also expect people to come in and rattle our cage every transfer window.”
So is this what City are reportedly on the verge of doing – rattling a cage that shows no signs of giving way?
Quite possibly, because even if the reports are true why would Suarez swap Liverpool – title-contenders and soon-to-be Champions League participants – for City, who are exactly the same in those two regards.

Money may always play a part in the game, but having put pen to paper on a new deal that will see him more than looked after at Anfield, we cannot see Suarez swapping red for blue, or for any other club in this country for that matter.
Liverpool are on the up, and Suarez is just one of the reasons for that fact.
What do you think of the rumours regarding Suarez and City?
