The League Two
strugglers who have been placed into administration twice after selling
Glen Johnson to the Reds in 2009, and now they could profit thanks to a
clause in his deal.
Pompey initially had to hand
over £4m of the £17m fee to Chelsea because of a sell-on clause that
dates back to his switch to Stamford Bridge in 2007.
And
because of former chief executive Peter Storrie's work in pushing for
the incentive, Pompey could reap the fruits of his hard labour.
Johnson signed
for Liverpool in the summer after they finished runners-up to Manchester
United, but are in a strong position to end their 24-year wait to lift
the title.
The Reds are currently two points
ahead of second-placed Chelsea and they will be crowned champions if
they pick up maximum points from their remaining six games.
Johnson,
who began his career at West Ham, has gone on to win 50 caps for
England - a milestone he reached in an international friendly against
Denmark in February.
